It seems almost cruel to us New England-types that National Margarita Day falls at the latter part of February, a month of very uncelebratory weather.

We’ve modified the following recipe from one posted on imbibemagazine.com to please all of our chilly friends at home and in the studio. To keep it cozy, we recommend exchanging the brighter, bolder flavor of tequila for a smokey, mellow mezcal. The tamarind puree adds enough interest to keep us going through the winter. Skip the fancy rim, though. It’s too reminiscent of snow!

Tamarind Margarita

2 oz. mezcal
¾ oz. tamarind purée
¾ oz. simple syrup
¼ oz. fresh lime juice
1 dash Angostura bitters

(Consider using cinnamon simple syrup for extra warmth. Add 1 cinnamon stick to 1 cup of water over a low heat. Slowly dissolve 1 cup of sugar into the water. Remove from heat and allow to cool. )

Fill glass with ice and set aside.

Add all ingredients to shaker. Shake with ice for about 30 seconds. Strain into chilled glass.

Serve. (May we recommend our 8oz End of Day Cups or 4oz End of Day Cordials to elevate this already transcendent experience?)
